Lucas started Kindergarten today. He was happy and excited - waking up 30 minutes before I intended to wake him up. That says a lot from a kid who likes to sleep in!
How did this day get here so fast?
It doesn't even feel real that he is old enough for school - all day, every day. Weren't we just moving to this small town and bringing him home from the hospital? I've been so blessed to be home with our kids for a year and a half. We've spent many days having fun, just as many lazy days doing nothing at all and certainly some days of not-so-much fun things on the to-do list. Now most of those activities will be with the younger two as the oldest is busy doing his newest job - student.
Hannah (2 1/2), Lucas (5 1/2) and Ryan (8 weeks).
He was so pumped to get this backpack. Who wouldn't be excited for that snazzy bag?!?!
It's a weird feeling -- your kid going off to school. I wasn't sad that he was going to school. I was proud of the boy he is growing into. I was, selfishly, sad that I wasn't getting to enjoy his company all day. I was worried that he would love school and that Hannah would miss her best playmate. I shed some tears, but it was a proud parent day. There were tears of happiness, thankfulness and excitement just as much as they were tears of sadness, anxiety and motherly worry {which I do WAY TOO MUCH of}.
Lucas was worried that his new school schedule was going to cut into his play time with Dad. He doesn't quite understand the concept of time but when we talked about school being "all day" Lucas thought he wouldn't be home until bed time. After we explained that most days Lucas would be home before Dad got home from work, that made it okay.
Attempting to get a photo of Lucas and his gal pal, Ava.
These two were in daycare together as babies and have been friends ever since.
Photogenic Ava was ready for the picture... Lucas was preoccupied by all of the playground happenings.
Then he was busy being a silly boy.
And he continued to be a silly boy.
{Thanks to Janelle for a good shot!}
When it was time to pick up our new student, the report was that he loved it. Yay!!!
His favorite parts were recess and lunch. Those were Dad's favorites, too :)
Showing off his moves after school.
We continued our tradition of ice cream after special school days. It seems to be a good way to get all of the details of his day. :-) I love to hear every bit of it! The best news to report -- he's excited to go back for day #2!
