Christmas program

Lucas enjoyed singing and dancing at his daycare Christmas program. One of their songs was Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree and they had cardboard guitars with paint and glitter.

Halfway through the song, Lucas spotted his Grandma. He gave her a shout-out and the crowd got a good laugh. Lucas made Grandma's day!

The gooey, sticky candy canes the children got afterward.

Going to school Christmas programs could be my newest favorite tradition.

Animal Science lesson

This exchange occurred yesterday between Lucas and I while driving.

Me: "Look, Lucas, there are some moos." (pointing to cows in passing pasture)
Lucas: "No, mama."
Me: "Oh, those aren't moos? They sure look like moos."
Lucas: "Cows, mama. Cows."

I must have missed animal science class that day. Thanks for the lesson, Lucas.

Farming

Harvest was completed about a week ago. There is still field work to be done, but since the ground froze, that came to a halt. Here are a few pictures from my phone of the last day of combining.

Lucas learned a lot about farming this fall. He knows the difference between corn and beans and said "uh-oh" when the hopper was filling up. He knew that meant we needed to dump in a wagon and would start looking to see if someone was coming with the grain cart.

Lucas was riding with Papa in the tractor and I was in the combine with Brent. If you look closely, you can see his red hat. I'm sure he was helping steer the wheel!

Just a disclaimer on this photo... Lucas was standing right in front of me, inside the combine. While you can't see the window, he was completely safe from all moving parts.
Farming is in his blood!

New windows

This was August 9, 2009 at approximately 10:45AM.

Our new windows and patio door were installed last week.

I took this picture while the crew was carrying the new patio door. I wasn't sure any of them really wanted me to take their picture, so this will have to do. Did I take an after picture, you ask? No, I forgot!

What a week!

Last week was a long/short week for our family. We started the week with a Thanksgiving celebration for my side of family and a birthday party. Lucas is lucky because he gets to share his birthday month with his cousin, Abby.

Oh, the determination of an almost two year old.

We got new windows on Wednesday (stay tuned…).

We celebrated Thanksgiving with Brent’s family on Thursday. This meant lots of good food and a good nap, too!Over the long weekend, we decorated the house, rode in the combine (and finished harvest – yay!) and celebrated a family Christmas. Brent’s grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins get together early so that it accommodates schedules a little easier. Lucas mostly did this while the family had the grab bag gift exchange:

It was a great long weekend and we really enjoyed all of the time together. It sure makes Monday morning hard on everyone!
