Spirits in the Garden ~ Reiman Gardens

We went to Reiman Gardens on ISU Campus on October 30 (which just happened to be my birthday) to check out the Spirits in the Garden.  It was a beautiful, crisp fall afternoon and we had a lot of fun checking everything out.

Volunteers were stationed all over the 14 acre gardens with candy, games and activities for the kids.

Games.

The Iowa State University Wildlife Care Clinic brought some friends, too.
They had a barred owl and red wing falcon for kids to get up close to.

A librarian was sharing some great Halloween books, too.  Lucas can listen to books for hours!

It's mommy's birthday!

Crafts.

A huge (Volkswagen) beetle in the Conservatory.

We had a great time and it was a great event to participate in as a family!

While walking through the beautiful gardens, we happened upon beautiful roses.

Did you know that Dr. Griffith Buck, a faculty member at Iowa State, introduced 85 rose cultivars?  Dr. Buck spent 40 years on faculty at Iowa State in the Horticulture Department.  Even today, roses bred by Buck are still being released (he died in 1991).

The ironic part?  Dr. Buck was allergic to rose pollen.  Didn't stop him!
